Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a serious study of epiphytes, especially orchids and bromeliads. There is a special greenhouse where some very rare and beautiful orchids and other plants may be found. Visit there first to put you in the mood to paint the lovely grounds.
This is one of the few places in the world where you can walk through the tree tops on a platform that allows you to see truly the birds’ eye view. There is a pond filled with Koi that dazzles with color. There are huge banyan trees that shoot roots from above into the ground creating bridges to walk under. You expect fairy castles at every turn. Sometimes you might even find one.
There is a restaurant and facilities if you can take the time from the beauty that surrounds you here. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a very special place to paint.
There are lots of festivals here and special events. This is one of the city’s favorite playgrounds. There are few more beautiful gardens in Sarasota. You will often hear music here and the views across the bay are especially lovely from this place.
