Plein Air Painters of the Suncoast

Kathleen Crane - Featured Artist

Kathleen Crane's Photo

Wonderful things happen by chance. Kathleen was introduced to plein air painting by a chance meeting with an artist working in the field. Now she prefers working primarily outdoors. Capturing the essence of a place in her paintings equals a successful day.

  • Demo:  March 2, 2017 at 10 am
  • Topic:  Watercolor: The Value of Transparent Layers
  • Mini Workshop:  Lemon Bay Park and Environmental Center, 570 Bay Park Blvd., in Englewood.
Kathleen’s demo will focus on the value of transparent layers to add depth, value, and complexity to painting. She will demonstrate a quick watercolor value study followed by a plein air watercolor. Kathleen will discuss brush loading and other techniques to control paint from the first layer through the subsequent layers.

Kathleen will do a short demo and follow with her mini workshop. Artists who are not going to the mini workshop are welcome to stay and paint at beautiful Lemon Bay Park. Even if you do not work in watercolor, you won’t want to miss this Light Chaser Demo or the Mini Workshop. Learning how to use thin layers of paint is exactly the way to get both transparency and luminosity no matter what medium you use when you paint.
